About
Since she began performing in 1998, Leanne has captivated diverse audiences with her haunting melodies and catchy hooks. Over the years, she has developed an authentic style, blending influences in roots rock, blues and R&B/soul. Through her lyrics, she explores topics that are both personal and relatable, expressing her perspectives on relationships, personal growth, and the search for truth.
Leanne Wilkins & the Weathered recently completed a new full-length album. The Art of Letting Go is a story of death and rebirth, pain and redemption, shadow and light, regret and forgiveness. Through the pandemic and her transition to motherhood, Leanne followed her calling back to songwriting. This led her on a journey of healing and bringing light to the darkest parts of herself with fearless authenticity and vulnerability. The majority of songs on the album were written on piano, the instrument Leanne first fell in love with in her childhood. In the most literal sense, writing this album took her on a journey back to her roots and her true self.
This album centers on healing the heartbreak surrounding her family of origin, including the death of her younger sister and the absence of her mother. She reflects on the questions she wrestled with as she brought a child into the world during the pandemic, at a time when hate and violence were rampant, and her hopes for her daughter’s future. Leanne also touches on more esoteric experiences and connections that guided her to pursue her calling and find greater love within herself.
While this album is less guitar-driven and features keys more prominently, The Art of Letting Go builds upon The Weathered’s previous EP, Ordinary Grey. Their roots rock and blues influences have provided a solid bedrock for the band to explore more experimental arrangements and sounds. This album showcases Leanne’s maturity as a songwriter and the band’s collective growth as they’ve collaborated on the arrangements and traversed the musical landscape into uncharted territory. The Art of Letting Go brings a message of healing and hope to the world after a particularly dark time in recent human history.
The Art of Letting Go was engineered and mixed by Robb Davidson at Avast and Nels Motel in Seattle, Washington. It was mastered by Rachel Field at Resonant Mastering in Seattle, Washington. The band includes Derek Pulvino (guitar), Clint Hoyler (bass) and Ben Loshin (drums & co-producer). The record also features some incredible guest musicians: Tim Kennedy (Hammond B3), Josh Tvrdy (guitar), Charlie Smith (keys), and Abby Gundersen (strings). The first singles from the upcoming record will be released in the summer of 2024 on all major streaming platforms. Leanne is performing solo and with The Weathered throughout the greater Seattle area to promote the upcoming album. Join the mailing list or follow the band on social media to stay up-to-date.
